Mission
I aim to create a nurturing, collaborative, and educational environment for the children and families who I am lucky to welcome into my speech and language therapy practice. I aspire to empower school-aged children through their speech and language skills and to ultimately impart them with the communicative abilities (listen-think-speech) needed to achieve and experience life-long personal, academic, and social success.
Philosophy
I seek to provide children and their families with an individualized therapeutic approach that emphasizes and strengthens the critical connections between the ability to listen, think, and develop speech, I believe these to be the three pillars of effective communication, hence the name of my speech-language therapy practice. Through my years of practice, I have come to view effective speech-language therapy with children as a three-pronged approach. With Listen-Think-Speech, I work with each child to reinforce each of these crucial, foundational components in order to establish an ideal therapeutic environment and potential for your child’s communicative success. As a therapist, and mother of three adult children, I too employ this philosophy in my personal and professional life. I take the time needed to actively Listen to my clients, their parents, care-givers, and other team members and to understand their feelings, needs, and expectations. I work with children to develop, hone, and increase their ability to Listen. Active listening skills are essential throughout life, and studies have shown that due to the nature of brain plasticity, listening can be improved at any age. Next, Think. I Think intently about formulating and delivering the most effective, evidence-based treatment via sessions that are creative, fun and engaging, and ones that provide multiple opportunities for your child to experience success. I teach my clients how to Think as I employ combinations of verbal, visual, and tactile modalities in order to help them form the connections and strategies needed to achieve task related goals. Yes, I practice this with even my youngest clients! Finally, Speech...I am astutely aware of the power of my Speech during sessions with your children...I am your child’s teacher, motivator, and unwavering cheerleader. Ultimately, YOUR CHILD is my focus! I work within each child’s potential to increase his/her Speech and Language and communication skills to achieve success, confidence, and pride in their personal, academic, and social interactions throughout life.
